[b]I. Overview[/b]

I am very happy to release my very first visual style for Windows Vista! This visual style features glasslike elements in Windows Aero and metallic elements in Windows Vista Basic. It also features a new shell style and 2 Sidebar Styler skins. A variation of Vista Reflections labeled “Remove Text Glow on Max” is also included in the pack. I hope you enjoy using this visual style as much as I enjoyed making it!

[b]II. Requirements[/b]

In order to use the files included in the pack, you will need to download some files first.

1. The Visual Style – The visual style included in the pack is an edited .MSSTYLES file. In order to use edited visual styles like the one included in this pack, you will need to download patched versions of these system files:

shsvcs.dll
themeui.dll
uxtheme.dll

After that, you will need to replace the original files in your system folder with the patched ones you just downloaded. More information about this matter can be found in many forums that discuss about Windows Vista Customization. (Take note that the patched files for Windows Vista RTM cannot be used to replace the original files in Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and vice versa.)

Once you patched your system files, put the folder containing the visual style in your themes folder located here:

%systemroot%\Resources\Themes

(Copy that to the address bar of Explorer and hit Enter.)

Note: For Vista RTM users, you can also try using programs that automatically backup these system files and replace them with the new ones:

2. The Sidebar Skins – You will need to download a program called Windows Sidebar Styler. After doing so, the file type of the sidebar skins included in the pack will be recognized by Windows Sidebar Styler. You can then double-click on the sidebar skin you want to use.

3. The Varied Visual Style – The difference in this variation is that it does not display a white glow (See the picture below) behind the text in the title bar of a program or a window when you maximize it. In order to use this, just replace the original .MSSTYLES file with the variation.

The picture above shows how the white glow in maximized windows looks like. This is removed in the variation. Font color is changed backed into white like the one in the original Windows Aero visual style.

[b]III. Legal Information[/b]

Windows Vista resources in the visual style are copyright of Microsoft Corporation. They are only included in the pack for customization purposes.

The shell style in the pack was made using a shell style template created by Lost Soul.

Other resources and pictures in the pack are copyright of counteralchemist. Please do not redistribute or edit them without my permission.
